As I've said I've played hockey in Auckland from the age of 9. I now play for HDF (Hibiscus Dairy-Flat) love it there too and Grandy is happy I am playing at HDF as that's where he spent a lot of his life..
When playing in the school grades it started really good but like most sports it got political & after years of hard practice and training I managed to make it to the higher teams up until the last year of collage. Then I got dropped down to basically the lowest grade, not because I was naughty, just because of politics. I was stunned, I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet but I was a pretty reasonable player and most of my peers couldn't believe it either.
So that shattered me a bit and broke my confidence, I took a break from hockey for quite a few years.
I had offers to play but turned them down. Until one year one of my former coaches convinced to join her team at ECB (East Coast Bays) so I did and haven't looked back.
I loved playing there it was a great club, but times change and my brother said I should try for HDF (he played there) and because my Grandad is getting on in age now I thought I'd do it for him.
So I tried out and I made it into a great team.
I'm loving it there and even got my mum playing for a team and she's never played hockey before in her life, Go Mum!
